Hours: Part- Time – Monday to Friday, 9:30-2.30pm Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday and 2pm-5pm Wednesdays (23 hours per week)

Our independent living homes are a beautiful estate of 87 social housing properties for rent to older people of limited means who are able to maintain an independent lifestyle. Part of the Estate is a Grade 2 listed Manor House converted into 11 apartments with stunning common rooms for all 87 residents to enjoy (Covid Rules permitting). The grounds are extensive, well maintained and provide spaces for walking, sitting and even some raised beds for gardening.

About the role

This development is for independent living, in the role of Support Officer you will be responsible for the welfare of residents. Whilst allowing residents to maintain their independence you will have regular contact with them to ensure that they have support where necessary and you will be able to signpost to support services within the community if so required. Regular contact will be either through seeing people face to face, via telephone or by use of the alarm call system. It is important to be available to residents while on duty, to respond to any emergencies and ensure that all is running well on the estate in collaboration with the Caretaker. This role requires good written and verbal communication skills, enabling you to liaise with residents, family, statutory and voluntary agencies in respect to issues pertaining to support of residents in their homes and maintaining independence. It would be highly advantageous to have an understanding of social support and government benefits and the way can they be utilised to assist our residents.

You will be responsible for dealing with accommodation queries, including transfer requests and enquiries from new applicants, involving sending out application forms, managing people’s expectations and updating the waiting list accordingly. Equally important will be obtaining references for potential applicants, interviewing them, seeking approval from the Area Manager at the Head Office, setting up Tenancy Agreements and inducting new tenants.

Also central to the role is the ability to perform administrative duties in line with requirements: managing your emails daily, checking for any welfare or maintenance issues that may have occurred out of hours. To assist the finance team with approving invoices, issuing charges and receipts for use of the guest suite and assisting with any rent arrears issues. Our ideal candidate will be proficient with Microsoft packages such as Word and Excel, enabling you to produce estate newsletters and reports for board meetings.

We expect that you will be confident and happy to work independently, whilst engaging with and receiving support from the responsive team at Head Office.

You will want to represent the organisation to a high standard with a professional and friendly approach to the management of this wonderful estate. Ideally caring about people and taking a genuine interest in making a difference to their everyday lives is also something that drives you. Attention to detail is highly important as is an ability to keep and maintain accurate records.
